Blue Carbon Society Completes Mangrove Masterplan

Blue Carbon Society, a nonprofit backed by DTGO, joined the closing ceremony at Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit for its 3-year joint mangrove masterplan project in Phetchaburi.

27 September 2024, Bangkok – Blue Carbon Society, a nonprofit backed by DTGO, joined the closing ceremony at Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit for its 3-year joint mangrove masterplan project in Phetchaburi.

 

Conducted with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative looked at how to conserve and extend the province’s remaining 17% of pristine mangroves.

 

East Bang Taboon was chosen for an “Urban Mangrove Forest Showcase” exploring ecotourism and sustainable development.

 

A pilot reclamation at Pak Thale looked at how to return salt farms to nature.

 

Dr. Wit Soontaranun, Director of Blue Carbon Society, attended with Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.

 

Ms. Niamh Collier-Smith joined as Resident Representative of UNDP in Thailand.

 

Ms. Kanokvalai Bordikarnb, Project Director, spoke alongside local people from Bang Taboon.

 

Representatives from government, business, BIOFIN, and coastal communities joined the event.
